Rumour: Metal Gear Online Receiving A Beta?

Metal Gear Online

Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, is rumoured to have a potential beta held sometime next year.

According to a thread on NeoGAF, Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid creator and director, tweeted an image of him visiting Kojima Productions’ LA-based studio — the development team working on MGO — and on the right side of the picture is Metal Gear Online on the PlayStation 4’s dashboard.

Many GAF users believe that the image (see below) is potentially teasing a beta session for MGO, while others believe it could be standalone expansion. Kojima’s critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots had MGO released separately as an add-on for the title in Japan.

Konami, however, has recently confirmed that Metal Gear Online is included with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, although an official release date for Kojima’s next installment in his renowned franchise is yet to be confirmed.

Kojima may have hinted at a release date of June 22nd for The Phantom Pain during The Game Awards last week, as the director’s T-shirt had two dates written in Swedish — we know he enjoys teasing people with this kind of stuff, with P.T. (Silent Hills) and The Phantom Pain’s announcement being an example of this.

Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q2 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
