Publisher Ubisoft has announced that the soundtrack for their upcoming open-world stealth title Assassin’s Creed Unity can now be purchased online through Ubisoft Music or a limited edition vinyl is also available.
Sarah Schachner, who has collaborated with Ubisoft on past titles including Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Far Cry 3, has returned to score the multiplayer, story, co-op and combat music for Unity, with 4 of the tracks she has produced available to preview on SoundCloud.
“The French revolution was an interesting time musically because it was at the beginning of the classical period but there was still some crossover from the baroque era,” Schachner said. “The missions at Versailles, for instance, reflect more of the overly flourished baroque sound that the aristocracy was reluctant to let go of.”
Ubisoft has acknowledged the musician’s ability to produce a unique score for Unity through her “dynamic talents as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist (violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, voice) and modular synth artist/programmer.”
“The combat music in Unity needed to strike a balance between the methodical and calculated chamber sound of the era while also encompassing the passion and struggle that was at the center of the revolution,” she added. “As always with the franchise, the player is periodically reminded of the sci-fi modern Abstergo element with low gritty analog synth pulses weaving in and out of the classical soundscape.”
With Ubisoft preparing for the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity this month on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC — while Assassin’s Creed Rogue, the last-generation installment, will be releasing at the same time for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 — the company has been enticing fans of the franchise with details regarding the upcoming title, including Unity’s creative director, Alexandre Amancio, discussing the personality of protagonist Arno Victor Dorian, the cast of the title discussing their characters and the official achievement list released.
