Gears of War, Epic Games’ post-apocalyptic third-person shooter title, was originally released in 2006 and became a core exclusive for Microsoft’s Xbox 360, but a rumour has recently surfaced online suggesting a collection of titles from the critically acclaimed franchise could be heading to the Xbox One.
A Twitter user, Slays, tweeted the message of “#TheMarcusFenixCollection Gears of War 1-3 Xbox One” to head of Xbox Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s Major Nelson, Gears of War’s current developer Black Tusk Studios and veteran producer Rod Fergusson.
Phil Spencer, however, took the opportunity to retweet the message and raised suspicion that maybe Microsoft is currently working on bringing Gears of War 1, Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3 to Xbox One. Spencer, realising what his tweet could possibly imply, replied to Slays with a tweet saying, “Mistake on retweet, Love the passion for Gears but no announce.”

With Xbox One users receiving Halo: The Master Chief Collection (including Halo 1-4 running at 1080p and 60fps) later this year, the possibility of a Gears of War collection can’t be ruled out, especially as Microsoft acquired the rights to the Gears franchise from Epic Games earlier this year.
Little detail on the new Gears of War title has been revealed since the rights were obtained from Epic Games, expect for the fact that Black Tusk Studios will be developing the latest instalment for Xbox One and Rod Fergusson, who produced the original trilogy and worked closely with Epic’s former lead designer Cliff Bleszinski, had assumed the role as Black Tusk Studios’ studio manager.
