Xbox One Console Release China

After announcing in a vague statement on Friday that the Xbox One console release in China would be pushed back till the end of the year, Microsoft has now announced that the launch will be going ahead this Monday September 29th, making it the first home gaming console to launch in China in 14 years. China had banned consoles in 2000 citing their detrimental effect on gamers’ health, but lifted the ban on gaming consoles earlier this year. Enwei Xie, General Manager of Xbox China, commented on the launch:

“After receiving government approval for the first wave of games, we will launch with the first 10 games now and continue our work to bring more blockbuster games and a broad offering of entertainment and app experiences to the platform in the weeks and months to come. With extraordinary effort and seamless cooperation across parties, we are incredibly excited to deliver Xbox One to fans in China and we welcome them to the Xbox family.”

Out of all the launch games, only Naughty Kitties comes from a Chinese developer, Coconut Island. With the ban on gaming in China lifted, it will be interesting to see what new IPs might arise from that territory.
