Crowd Funding Highlight: Four Days Left to Back Moon Hunters

Moon Hunters 1

With only four days left to go in its stellar Kickstarter backing campaign, Moon Hunters is a game that definitely deserves your consideration, and your dollars. In development by Canadian studio Kitfox Games (developers of Shattered Planet), Moon Hunters is a beautiful co-operative pixel action-RPG that launched its way onto Kickstarter after earning an 83% approval rating as a part of the SquareEnix Collective. What gets us immediately excited for this project is the way the game is described by its developers:

You could describe the game as “Legend of Zelda meets Castle Crashers”, or maybe “King of Dragon Pass meets Gauntlet”. We empower players to experiment with their personality through the reputation and tribe-management, while combat challenges punctuate the journey as chances to prove their skill.

The game promises you short, randomized adventures in which you explore a rich fantasy world as one of five (perhaps soon to be six) heroes and utilize a range of combat skills to destroy your foes. Though each game session is short, Moon Hunters features a persistent mythology in which your characters will be remembered as a constellation in the sky – if they’re worthy, that is. Characters will choose one of four birth signs, and will be required to make decisions that will label them with upwards of 50 personality traits, both of which dictates how they will be received by the many NPCs in the game, and whether Teller Roa decides if your journey’s tale is worth keeping for future generations.

Moon Hunters SongweaverSince the inception of the Kickstarter was first reported by Gamer Headlines, Moon Hunters has not only managed to meet its modest $45,000 funding goal, but at the time of writing has now raised over $140,000, unlocking several new game features and console ports, with many more yet to be hit. The Songweaver, pictured to the right, was unlocked as a playable character through one of the stretch goals, and if the campaign manages to hit the $170,000 mark a sixth adventurer called the Sun Cultist will be unlocked as well. Also unlocked was online multiplayer support, as well as a single-player only version for PS Vita. If the campaign manages to reach $250,000, a version of the game will also be available on Wii U.

The Moon Hunters Kickstarter campaign ends this Friday September 26th at 12:03 PM BST, and the game is projected to launch initially on PC and Mac in Summer 2015 with PS4, PS Vita and potentially Wii U release to follow.
