3DS Circle Pads Breaking Because of Super Smash Bros.

by GH Staff

Following the recent Japanese release and North American early access demo of Super Smash Bros. 3DS, dozens of people have encountered Circle Pad problems on their 3DS systems because of the game’s fast-paced action.

According to multiple player reports coming in courtesy of Kotaku, the rubber on 3DS Circle Pad, and the plastic part located underneath are easily breaking off of their systems. While some of them look reparable, others are just completely destroyed, and that can prevent players from playing because the Circle Pad controls all of the character’s movement. This is not a good sign if for players who were planning on playing Super Smash Bros. for long periods of time. Below are a few pictures that have been sent by players showing the gravity of this issue.

Though most reports come from original 3DS owners, some of them have also reported this issue on the 3DS XL. With the recently announced New 3DS and New 3DS XL for the Japanese market, it will be interesting to see if this issue surfaces again once the system officially launches.

We’ll keep you updated if Nintendo comments on this situation.

Super Smash Bros. 3DS will launch for Nintendo 3DS on October 3, 2014 with a Wii U version following later in the year. I had the chance to try out the game’s 3DS demo for myself, you can read my thoughts about it right here.

What do you think of this issue? Will Nintendo suffer another faulty product controversy like the one with the DS Lite hinge cracks back in 2006, or is it just another uncommon problem? Let us know in the comments below and, as always, stay tuned to Gamer Headlines for all things gaming.
