Nintendo’s NEW 3DS Announced

Nintendo has revealed redesigned models for both the 3DS and the 3DS XL that will feature an additional direction button and trigger along with NFC support. Named as the “New 3DS” and “New 3DS XL” the new hardware will include a new screen allowing you to enjoy the handheld’s 3D effect  from a variety of angles.  A new faster CPU will be included and in future needed to play up and coming games such the recently announced Xenoblade Chronicles, this will also make loading the 3DS eShop and Miiverse faster while the handheld’s internet browser will support HTML5.

The new noticeable features are the ZL and ZR buttons while a miniature slider pad has been added above the ABXY buttons, this will act as a second analogue stick. Full support to Amiibo has will be included with the NFC reader located on the bottom touch screen, pretty cool right?

The game card slot, stylus and headphone jack have been moved to the bottom while the START and HOME buttons have been relocated to the right. Probably the best part is the new customizable  face plates, yes now you can dress up your fancy 3DS like your phone! The New 3DS XL will come in Metallic Blue and Metallic Black colours while the New Nintendo 3DS meanwhile will come in white and black.

Where and when can I grab these awesome New 3DS’s? Nintendo UK PR has confirmed that we won’t see these handhelds before 2015 but a Japanese release is expected first.

I’m not quite sure about the extra directional stick, but the face plates look pretty cool! Customizable 3DS is a plus in my book.

Was going to try and pick up a 2DS and Smash when it comes out since I don’t have a 3DS. Now, I’ll just buy Smash and wait for the US release of New3DS. Haven’t played the original Xenoblade and its sequel is up on my wish list.

While I’m definitely interested, the fact that it’s title seems to literally be “New Nintendo 3DS” is admittedly pretty stupid. Nintendo’s gotten grossly lazy with their system naming since the Wii U.

Do they even make games for the DS range anymore? I’m talking all the way from NDS to whatever the latest 3DS version is. I’m sad that Nintendo are pretty much destined to die as a console make soon but its not hard to see why when they have virtually no 3rd party developer support and continually release rehashes of retro games, various versions of hand held consoles (C’mon my phone can rival the DS range…and does as I have an NDS emulator) and aim at the lower end of the gaming market. They need to up their game, if they really want to compete imo they need a super powered machine to rival the PS4/XBONE. Just my opinion.
