The year of the smartwatch is here, as the newest trend is gaining slowly in popularity. Although not many people have been sporting watches on their wrist lately, watches have upgraded in their fashion and utility. The latest releases of the LG G Watch R and Motorola’s Moto 360, are two smartwatches that will surely peak your interest.
Design
The good news is that both look like ordinary watches; both have an elegant construction and round displays. The Moto 360 has a body made from brushed stainless steel and is completed with strap made of leather. It comes in several colors with the options of gray and stone leather to coincide with its black and natural stainless steel metal look.
By far, the most beautiful smartwatch out now is the LG G Watch R, as it makes for a perfect imitation of a wristwatch. The power button is located on the right side (the winding key) and a numbered bezel.
Display
1.56 inch diameter of Moto 360 is coated with Corning Gorilla Glass. The display sits above the metal housing and can become quite messy from rubbing and smearing it. The LCD supports 320 x 290 resolution and 205 ppi pixel density, which will make the text a little hard to make out. You will notice a black bar under the round display that will probably be a distraction.
The LG G Watch R has OLED round display, which measures 1.3 inches in diameter with a 320 x 330 pixel resolution.
Hardware
The Moto 360 is powered by the TI OMAP 3 processor that runs on 512 RAM and provides an internal storage capacity of 4GB. IT also provides support to receive voice commands thanks to its embedded microphone. The LG G Watch R has the same internal storage capacity and RAM, but operates on a Snapdragon 400 processor that clocks at 1.2GHz. The G Watch R also has voice recognition that will alert users when the weather changes, or when they have missed a text message or call.
Both are compatible with devices that operate on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and both runs of Android Wear powered by Google. Both are water and dust resistance, IP67 certified, and offer similar basic features.
Battery
The G Watch R provides the bigger battery with 410mAh that last much longer when you don’t enable the heart rate monitor. While the Moto 360 lasts up to 20 hours with a 320mAH battery.
Prices
The LG G Watch R is available now for $328, while the Moto 360 is priced at $260.
