Assassin’s Creed: Unity gets a New Story Trailer

Assassin's Creed Unity patch 4 to fix most problems

Ubisoft published this new Assassin’s Creed: Unity trailer today, showcasing some of the characters and situations that players can expect to see in the game:

The trailer showcases Arno, the game’s main protagonist, interacting with several characters, including Napoleon.  It also shows Arno going before a council of Assassins, which is perhaps the most interesting part of the trailer, as there hasn’t been a formal Assassin group since the first game in the series.

That isn’t to say that our heroes have been working alone since the time of Altaïr; Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood introduced a system allowing the player to build up an order of Assassins, and this system has persisted through every subsequent game in the series, in some fashion.  However, these devices were always gameplay elements.  With the exception of a few cut-scenes, your Assassins have always been more like tools than complete characters.  The inclusion of a larger group of Assassins will certainly have important implications for the game’s plot.

On a different note, this trailer has a notably different feel to it than previous games have had.  While action-packed set pieces have existed in Assassin’s Creed for a few years, this trailer seems to show Assassin’s Creed: Unity drawing even more inspiration from modern action movies.  Obviously, this is all opinion and speculation at this point, but the narration, dialogue, music, and explosions used in the trailer all seem like things that wouldn’t be out-of-place in a trailer shown before a movie at a theater.  We’ll have to wait and see if the full game retains this feeling when it releases on November 11th for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.  As for right now, you can head over to Assassin’s Creed’s official website for more information regarding Unity.

How do you feel about Unity?  Are you getting the same action-movie vibe from the trailer?  If so, do you think that it’s just a natural evolution of the series as we move onto this generation’s consoles?  Sound off in the comments below!
