Nintendo 2DS Full Specs and Price

by GH Staff

[dropcap size=dropcap]T[/dropcap]his year’s autumn, on October 12, 2013, Nintendo has released a new handheld console, called 2DS. The device was intended to be a cheaper alternative of the 3DS console, with the same hardware, except the 3D screen. Nintendo gave away the compact design with hinge, preferring instead a one-piece bracket.

As a reminder, the 3DS consoles and now the 2DS as well are powered by a dual core processor based on the ARM11 architecture, a Digital Media Professionals PICA200 GPU, 128 MB FCRAM, 6 MB VRAM and 2 GB internal memory (of which 1.5 GB are available for the user) . Connectivity includes Wi-Fi and an SD slot. A singer speaker is available for the sound output.

You wonder about why they changed the design? It’s quite simple: to save on the production costs. The 2DS console has only one display, covered with a plastic that delineates two screens with the same size as the 3DS: the upper 3.53 “(9 cm) one with a maximum resolution of 400 * 240 pixels, and the inferior – a resistive touch screen-  3” (7.6 cm) one with a maximum resolution of 320 * 240 pixels.

But, strangely, Nintendo 2DS keeps the two 0.3 MP cameras available on the superior model. Therefore, you can make 3D pictures, but you can not play them. However, the new console is compatible with al the games available for DS and 3DS and will cost less than the 3DS device.

The Nintendo’s 2DS official retail price

The Nintendo 2DS system is available now at a retail price of 129.99 U.S. dollars. It is available in two colors, red and blue. With a good balance of costs versus features, Nintendo 2DS will try to offer a perfect user experience as company officials already stated in their newest presentation clip called “Nintendo 2DS – Introduction to the Nintendo 2DS”. The console was released along with the game Pokemon X and Y in the United States and Europe on October 12, 2013.
