Fans of Grand Theft Auto 5 can now hope to relive some of the San Andreas’ glory days if some rumours are to be believed. The said rumour is reported to have emerged at the latest Comic Con expo 2013.
Kotaku were the first to get hold of this bit of news when it was reported that Shawn “Solo” Fonteno who was the actor who portrays Franklin Clinton in GTA 5 slipped up and revealed that the central character of GTA: San Andreas, Carl “C.J.” Johnson may make a possible return to the series in the future DLC.
During a discussion that involved Fonteno, Ned Luke (voice-actor for Michael De Santa) and Steven Ogg (voice-actor for Trevor Phillips), they was asked which other video game character would they have liked to portray. Fonteno reportedly responded with the lead character from GTA: San Andreas, Carl Johnson, as his answer.
In fact he further went on to reveal that he and Young Malay, who was the actual voice behind CJ, are actually working together on a project currently. However, when he was pressed to talk more on this, he declined and quickly changed over the subject.
Anyone who played GTA: San Andreas will know that the game ended with CJ getting his revenge on those who wronged him. The storyline of that game took place in the 90s whereas GTA V as we all know is set in 2013, so apparently, CJ would have aged and must be in his 40s.
Rockstar has also thrown in many easter eggs and have made mute references to GTA: San Andreas in their latest game in the form of Grove Street which is now run by Ballas, a rival gang. If the player takes their vehicle on a drive through Grove Street, they can clearly see all the purple outfits that dot the area indicating the presence of the rival gang.
Whatever connection Rockstar chooses to employ in bringing CJ back to our screens, fans will ultimately benefit in the end. You just can’t go wrong with that.
