We know that DayZ is in an early alpha stage, but we’re constantly expecting new patches and new things to see or test in the game. And, after some digging, we’re going to shed some light on what exactly you can expect in the near future.
First things first, Rocket announced that his top priority right now is fixing combat-logging. The truth is, much of DayZ’s fun comes from player interaction. Chopping a guy’s head off with an axe, cuffing someone and feeding him a rotten banana, stealing the pants off of a poor, lonely survivor…you know, that sort of thing. And when people alt+f4 when you open fire or attempt an arrest, it kinda kills the fun for the more fair players. In addition, server hopping makes it exceedingly difficult to get your hands on some good mods. It doesn’t matter if you’ve managed to get up North to a more remote area, chances are, a few people that were already up there managed to wipe dozens of servers clean by jumping from one server to the other, leaving you nothing but dust. So, Rocket’s main concern is to fix these game-breaking exploits. It’s unsure as to how exactly these issues will be solved, but some viable solutions would be a log-out timer or characters staying in-game for a few seconds if you close the game (meaning that you can still get shot in the kisser, even if you alt+f4).
Now, on to the content side itself. Ever wondered why there’s a truckload of shotgun slugs or pellets in the game, but nothing to put them in? Well, that’s about to be fixed, probably this week. The IZH 43 double-barreled shotgun is coming to the game. Not only that, but apparently, there will be a sawed-off version of it too, which will act as a side-arm. The sawed-off version will have about 4 times the spread of the regular version, so make sure you’re up close and personal when you pull the trigger. Oh, and don’t expect pristine items on your victim either.
We’ve also stumbled across some leaked 3D models for DayZ, and while there’s no guarantee that all of these will make it to the game, most of the items on the list most likely will.
As you can see, there are quite a few items on the list. Some of them can be recognized by older DayZ mod players. The GPS is one of the utility items featured in the mod that will most likely make it back into the standalone, and it will surely be of great help to newer players. Weapon-wise, we’ll be seeing AK versions soon enough (no surprise there), as well as the SKS, one very accurate rifle DayZero players might remember. The SKS will most likely hold 5 bullets, but will be reliably accurate at medium to long ranges, especially with those new long-range scopes.
The presence of meat and a deer also confirms what we’ve already been expecting, mainly that hunting will be added to the game soon (this was on top of Rocket’s to-do list anyway), and you’ll soon be able to cook a delicious venison stake on a cozy campfire with your friends. Last, but not least, new building types seem to be in the works, and that can only make us happy. Rick Grimes won’t be the only one shooting zombies in a prison anymore.
Overall, there’s a lot of stuff in the works. Considering that there haven’t been any recent patches, it’s safe to assume the DayZ team will be releasing something in the coming days. Rocket will also be sitting down to discuss the possibilities of expanding the dev-team this week, so we’re optimistic about how content will start flowing into the alpha in the future.
