A television network has recently used an image from Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty during a live broadcast.

News channel TVA Nouvelles used the image of Solid Snake sneaking up on a Gurlukovich soldier whilst wearing the iconic cardboard box as part of its coverage on the events taking place in Dammartin-en-Goële, France.

Brothers Cherif, 32, and Said Kouachi, 34, the two gunmen responsible for the death of 12 people during the assault on Charlie Hebdo’s office this week, had taken a hostage at a printing factory located in Dammartin-en-Goële.

During the hostage siege, which had heavily armed French policemen storming the factory, one of the employees of the printworks was believed to be hiding inside a cardboard box and provided intel on what was happening inside the building—Solid Snake would be proud, I think…

“Now we travel to Dammartin[-en-Goële]. You see the image that has circulated widely on social media,” the presenter said (via Branchez-vous).

“This is a reproduction of the scene, where we see one held hostage throughout the morning which was actually holed up in a cardboard box.”

Earlier this week, French-based developer Quantic Dream released a statement that paid tribute to the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack.
