A first look at The Last of Us’ DLC, Left Behind

by GH Staff

Can’t get enough of one of the best games of 2013, The Last of Us? Well, have no fear, because Ellis is making a comeback soon with the first (and probably only) DLC set to be released for The Last of Us, Left Behind. Naughty Dog has revealed a new teaser trailer, showing off a sleeping Ellie being bitten as a prank by Riley, her friend, who had been absent for about 46 days. But enough about that, you can see the teaser yourself below:

Left Behind will be a story-driven DLC, and it’s uncertain at this time how long or comprehensive it will be. Given that Naughty Dog has a proven track-record of quality story-telling, there’s no real reason to be worried about what this DLC will bring to the table. According to Ashley Johnson, the voice-actress giving life to Ellie, “You’ll definitely see a more playful side to Ellie and get to know her a bit better. You’re going to see a lot of different sides to the character that you definitely didn’t see in The Last of Us.”.

“It’s a little bit more ‘fun’, because you have two teenage girls going through a mall. It’s kind of like a post-pandemic version of two teenage girls hanging out. Definitely not a normal hangout!” she added, hinting at the fact that the DLC will take place around a shopping mall. The setting seems to be interesting enough, and the Merry go ‘Round shown in one of the revealed screenshots suggest an ever more interesting and diverse setting.

As far as Riley is concerned, she’s probably going to take Joel’s place, in spiritual terms at least, if not gameplay-wise.  “She’s also a mentor to Ellie… and helps her explore and see different sides of the world that they live in, and doesn’t really like following authority blindly. She’s not interested in just doing whatever it is she’s being told. So that’s what pushes her in the direction to kind of become a Firefly.” stated Yaani King, the voice-actress behind Riley.

All-in-all, Left Behind certainly seems to be a slightly different take on The Last of Us. We’re very curious to continue to explore the rich universe of the game, and we will be able to do so sometime in “early 2014”, which most likely means spring. What we know for a fact is that the DLC will cost $14.99 through the Playstation Network, and will definitely require the original game to play.
