Hideo Kojima Has Officially Left Konami And Is Now Starting a New Studio
Update: It’s official – Kojima Productions is the name of Hideo Kojima’s new studio, and it will be developing games exclusively to PlayStation 4. You can find the announcement video below, showing Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House alongside the man himself:
Original story: In a relationship clouded by public uncertainty and speculations, Hideo Kojima and Konami might have finally parted ways. This was reported by Japanese newspaper Nikkei earlier today, with the article also mentioning that the Japanese designer is currently in talks with Sony while starting his own studio.
Rumors circling around Kojima’s imminent departure from Konami have been present pretty much throughout 2015, first with false information of the designer leaving the company back in April and then with his name being removed from Metal Gear solid V’s cover. Furthermore, back in October New Yorker reported that Kojima has officially left Konami, with the non-complete clause expiring in December (most likely on today’s date).
Most recently, an egregious event surrounding this relationship happened at the Game Awards 2015 with presenter Geoff Keighley announcing to the public that Hideo Kojima was not allowed to visit the ceremony – as imposed by Konami and their representative lawyer.
Well, let’s also not forget P.T.’s cancellation earlier this year. On that note, I wonder what this new mysterious studio would develop as its first game…
