Nintendo NX Controller Leaked
Nintendo have already patented a new controller design for use with their next console.
The patent features a design very similar to the current Wii U GamePad, however, the traditional shoulder buttons have been replaced with scroll wheels.
The documents state that the “wheel type operation section” has rotation and pressing detection; meaning they would likely still work in the same way as before, but with the added availability to scroll.
Notably, the controller features only two ‘face’ buttons, rather than the usual four.
Back in March of this year, Nintendo confirmed that work has started on their latest console – codenamed the Nintendo NX – and that more details will be coming in 2016.
The late Saturo Iwata, former Company President, said the aim of the NX is to offer something fresh and exciting:
“If you only expand upon existing hardware, it’s dull. In some shape or form, we’re always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person’s video gaming life.”
He also went on to mention the lifespans of the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS:
“When NX is launched, there already will be a certain volume of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U hardware widely existing in the market, so from a software business perspective, it would be highly inefficient to stop releasing titles for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U right after the launch of NX.”
Many fans believe the NX will act as a major bridge between portable and console gaming, allowing players to stay connected to all of their Nintendo titles no matter where they are or what they’re doing.
According to some reports, manufacturing could start this October, and the console could be set for release as early as next year. Tell us what you think in the comments below.
