New Details Revealed on Mortal Kombat X’s Multiplayer Mode

NetherRealm Studios’ highly anticipated Mortal Kombat X has had new details revealed regarding the online multiplayer mode in the title.

Players will be able to join one of five different factions in the multiplayer — Lin Kuei, White Lotus Society, Brotherhood of the Shadow, Special Force or Black Dragon — and earn an in-game currency called “battle points” for their respective alliance, according to Ed Boon, creative director on Mortal Kombat X.

Depending on whether or not the battle points are earned in the multiplayer or single-player mode (maybe both), the aesthetic layout of the main menu screen will alter to represent the mode that the player favours.

Outside of the multiplayer-related content revealed for Mortal Kombat X, the Challenge Tower, a mode that was introduced in Mortal Kombat 9 and allowed players to experience 300 unique scenarios, will be included in the tenth major installment in the franchise.

Boon, however, hinted at a rather interesting feature integrated in the new Mortal Kombat X Challenge Tower: “the towers and their challenges change constantly, even by the hour.”

Coinciding with the details on the multiplayer mode and the Challenge Tower is the announcement that Kung Lao is the latest character to be added to Mortal Kombat X’s 24-character roster.

The current roster consists of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kano, Quan Chi and Kung Lao as returning characters from the series, while Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage, Kotal Kahn and D’Vorah are four of the newest fighters to have been announced.

Running at 1080p and 60fps, Mortal Kombat X will launch on April 14th, 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
