There’s something about new games consoles which doesn’t reflect the old, nostalgic charm of clunkier, more garish consoles from gaming’s past. The PS4, the Xbox One and the Wii U are all black, slick, shiny and mostly indistinct. In particular, the first Playstation had an awkward charm about it, the grey colour scheme, the huge, indented disc tray, the fairly compact design.
As part of the ongoing celebration event for the Playstation’s 20th birthday, Sony have unveiled a 20th anniversary edition of the PS4 which bares a shocking resemblance to the first iteration of the iconic console. The console comes in only ‘original grey’, isn’t set for a standard retail release and is only purchasable at the Playstation Experience event. Only the EU price has been revealed, which currently sits at 500 euros.
Only 12,300 have been made, the exact number of Playstations made in the original launch unit for the PS1. Check out the video below to get a better look at the console.
