Sony and Capcom have recently announced that their upcoming re-remake of 2002’s Resident Evil, Resident Evil HD, will support cross-buy for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.
This means that if you buy the PS3 version of the game (which will cost up about $20), you will get the PS4 version for free – or vice versa. However, there is a catch – gamers will only be eligible for the cross-buy capability provided they pre-order the game from the PlayStation Network and live in North America. Those that pre-order Resident Evil HD will also receive an exclusive PS3/PS4 theme.
The following comes from a Capcom employee’s blog:
“Pre-orders for the remastered Resident Evil HD are now live on PlayStation Network, and holy cow: they’re offering cross-buy in North America! Pre-order the game on PSN, and you’re entitled to both the PS3 and PS4 versions. You also get an exclusive theme, and yep–they’re pre-load supported so you can start playing as soon as the game is officially “out.” Such a deal!”

Furthermore, Resident Evil HD will support pre-loading on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, so people who pre-order the game can play it immediately once it releases next month.
Speaking of which, Resident Evil HD is set to release on January 20th, 2015 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. The game will be at a resolution of 1080p on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
What are your thoughts on Resident Evil HD‘s PS3/PS4 cross-buy pre-order incentive? Do you feel that the capability should be available for everyone who purchases the game? Why or why not?
