Developer Quantic Dream has halted development on a fan-made port of their 2013 PlayStation 3-exclusive IP, Beyond: Two Souls.
The fan project had some extensive work done on it before it was cancelled, ranging from a significant amount of the port’s code being written to the full reconstruction of the prologue chapter, called ‘Broken,’ from Beyond: Two Souls (see the video below).
According to the XeNTaX forum, user HugoPeters said Guillaume de Fondaumière, co-CEO of Quantic Dream, and Damien Castelltort, CTO of Quantic Dream, recently contacted him and asked if he would stop development on the port.
“I was recently approached by the co-CEO of Quantic Dream [Guillaume de Fondaumière],” HugoPeters wrote. “He told me that he is aware of this project and would like me to stop working on it. He and the rest were amused by it, though!
“I was also contacted by the CTO of Quantic Dream [Damien Castelltort]. We are currently in talk about some things…
“But yeah, the inevitable happened. I’m afraid I can’t continue on the port/tools. Sorry, everybody, it’s been a blast. A big thanks to everybody who supported/helped me with the project.
“Even though the port might be legal, I want to keep everyone at Quantic Dream as allies, so I’m not going to be disobedient.
“To be continued…?”
Quantic Dream announced earlier this month that people could expect “Some great news” to be revealed in January 2015, with rumours suggesting that the developer is preparing to release a definitive edition/remaster of Beyond: Two Souls for PlayStation 4.
Additionally, David Cage, founder and co-CEO of Quantic Dream, had teased last month that the French-based studio is “working on something very exciting,” which is believed to be their untitled PlayStation 4-exclusive IP.
