The Nintendo 3DS sales have increased by more than 40 per cent due to recently released blockbuster titles, Nintendo of America has revealed.

According to Nintendo, the release of three major titles on the 3DS — Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS — has resulted in the company beating its sales statistics from last year.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the remakes of 2002’s Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, have almost reached the 1.5 million threshold for digital and physical copies sold in the U.S.

Meanwhile, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is the best-selling handheld title of 2014 in the U.S., as the company has confirmed that it’s surpassed more 1.5 million physical and digital sales in the region.

The Wii U, on the other hand, has had a 10 per cent increase on hardware sales and an eye-watering 90 per cent upturn of profit on software.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has approximating sold 710,000 units since its launch last month, while the Amiibo figure line — something Nintendo introduced to support this year’s fighting title — has almost equalled the same amount of sales as Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Nintendo has also revealed that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is Nintendo’s best-reviewed title of the year, with the game achieving a score of 92 on Metacritic. The best-selling Amiibo figures of 2014 are Link, Mario and Pikachu (in that respective order).

“This is a ringing endorsement from families and fans that Nintendo has the best variety, the best value and the best gaming experiences for sale this holiday season,” says Scott Moffitt, executive vice president of sales & marketing at Nintendo of America.

“We’re extremely confident in our holiday proposition and look forward to closing this year strong and starting 2015 with a full head of steam.”
