The Game Awards 2014: First Gameplay Footage Shown for Zelda Wii U

by GH Staff

During the final portions of the 2014 The Game Awards, a developer diary has shown for the upcoming Wii U The Legend of Zelda game that is set to launch sometime next year.

In this video, Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma, the series’ Creator and Producer respectively, demonstrated world premiere gameplay footage for the upcoming Nintendo Action-Adventure title that showcased gorgeous valley-like environments, the immense world to explore and some functionalities of the Wii U GamePad that displays the map of Hyrule and supports motion controls. Additionally, the implementation of the Sailcloth, an item introduced in 2011’s Skyward Sword, was also showcased through the four-minute-long video.

That’s not all, Epona also made an appearance as traversal with Link’s trusted horse was also shown in this world premiere footage. Link will be able to swing his sword and shoot arrows like he has been doing in previous entries of the franchise, but he can now vault off his horse and enter a slow-motion arrow shooting sequence that allows him to eliminate his foes with precision.

Lastly, Aonuma reassured all the skeptics by confirming that The Legend of Zelda Wii U will launch in 2015, after Miyamoto’s Star Fox game, which was also mentioned during the developer diary.

2015 will be a massive year for Zelda fans as The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, the 3DS remake of the 2000 Nintendo 64 game, will hit Nintendo’s portable system during the first half of next year.
