Fan-Made Petition Calls for an “Alternative Ending” DLC for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Unity

Editor’s note: As the title of this news piece suggests, a major spoiler from Assassin’s Creed Unity’s ending is included. You have been warned.

Do you ever remember that urban myth where thousands upon thousands of Final Fantasy VII fans believed there was a hidden method of keeping Aerith Gainsborough, a companion of main protagonist Cloud Strife, alive in the title?

Well, it seems that an Assassin’s Creed Unity fan was not pleased with developer Ubisoft Montreal’s decision to kill off Élise de la Serre, Arno Dorian’s love interest, in the main story, and he’s decided to act by creating a petition asking for an alternative ending to the open-world title.

Can Çakır, a user on Change.org, described Élise’s demise as a “very heart-breaking event,” and he wants Ubisoft to develop a DLC or an add-on where Arno’s companion survives.

“Elise’s death is a very heart-breaking event, and that makes the game unbearable to play with Elise in mind,” he wrote. “That’s why many people, including myself, hated this cliché ending.

“We’d like a DLC or other kind of add-on for an alternative ending. We would be very pleasant if this comes true.”

Although Çakır’s petition has only amassed a mediocre total of 9 signatures — yeah, it’s not the groundbreaking result he probably hoped for — it is certainly one of the more peculiar petitions that have attracted our attention.

Ubisoft Montreal’s first DLC for Assassin’s Creed Unity, Dead Kings, is yet to receive an official release date, but the expansion pack has had its achievement list and weapons and outfits already updated in the main title.

According to a statement released by Ubisoft CEO Yannis Mallat last month, Dead Kings will be available for free to all Unity owners on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, with the third-party publisher apologising for the title being “diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues.”
