Video Game Releases for the Week of 11/24/2014

The video game storm of the Holiday season has finally passed, and now we are in for the calm to end the year in full force. Though there are no AAA titles launching during this American Thanksgiving week, there is still a great lineup of games, mostly indie titles, ranging from well-known franchises such as Geometry Wars and Thomas Was Alone, as well as newcomers like Speakeasy and Pocket RPG. Also, though nothing has been officially confirmed by Telltale Games and Gearbox Software, reports are saying that the first episode of Telltale’s Tales From the Borderlands would launch on November 25. Gamer Headlines will keep you posted if any additional info about this title is released. Anyways, if you aren’t catching up on your gaming backlog this week, enjoy these following titles releasing throughout the week of November 24, 2014.

Note: All of the dates and prices listed below are for North American territories. Also, keep in mind that this list is subject to change with new games potentially announced or launching this week without notice.


 

Tuesday November 25, 2014:

  • Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed

Platform: PlayStation 4

Price: $49.99

While it was originally released in 2013, Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed, the Japanese-inspired beat ‘em up, is making its way to the PlayStation 4. In order to defeat the enemies called the Synthisters present in Akiba’s Trip, you’ll have to remove their clothes as they will be stopped by being directly exposed to sunlight.

 

  • Aqua Kitty – Milk Mine Defender DX

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita – (Digital Only on Both Platforms)

Price: $TBD (Cross-Buy)

Due to a sudden shortage of milk, cats around the world are forced to find a brand new source for their dairy needs. This means that you and your assembled cat team must overcome the fear of water and drill down the ocean to extract some milk, all while eliminating various hordes of enemies. Featuring 2-player local co-op, 25 main levels and a bunch of new modes, the DX version of Aqua Kitty is packed with features to satisfy your cat gaming needs.

 

  • Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 (Xbox Versions release on November 26), PC – (Digital Only on All Platforms)

Price: $14.99

In the third installment of the award-winning shoot ‘em up franchise, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, the levels are now set in 3D grids, making for an even more challenging experience. With over 50 single-player levels that can be played in Adventure or Classic Arcade Mode, as well as cooperative and competitive Multiplayer features, Geometry Wars 3 hopes to innovate on its frenetic arcade shooter gameplay with new tweaks that should change the formula quite a bit. Take note that Xbox owners will get the game a day later than PlayStation and PC users as it launches on November 26 for Xbox One and Xbox 360 instead of the 25th.

 

  • Jetpack Joyride Deluxe

Platforms: PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita – (Digital Only on Both Platforms)

Price: $TBD

While the popular mobile game was already available on PS3 and PS Vita, it is being re-released as the Deluxe version, meaning you’ll be able to help Barry Steakfries break into a lab and commandeer experimental jetpacks once again.

 

  • Penguins of Madagascar

Platforms: Wii U, 3DS

Prices: $39.99 for the Wii U Version, $29.99 for the 3DS Version

In this game based off the Madagascar spinoff movie of the same name, you’ll play as Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private, the penguins, as they try to stop Dave, or Dr. Octavious Brine, from destroying the penguin world. The crew will have to use its sneaky penguin skills to infiltrate secret locations and gain intel on Dave’s evil plan.

 

  • Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth

Platform: 3DS

Prices: $39.99 for the Standard Version, $79.99 for The Wild Cards Premium Edition, $199.99 for the 3DS Bundle

Containing elements from Persona 3 & 4 as well as Etrian Odyssey, Persona Q is a dungeon-crawling RPG produced by Atlus. As the main characters are trapped inside the Yasogami High School in Inaba, it will be up to you and your party members to continuously explore the school and the labyrinths hidden below it. Expect lots of backtracking as well combat, which is very similar to Etrian Odyssey.

 

  • Pocket RPG

Platform: PlayStation Vita (Digital Only)

Price: $TBD

Another mobile gaming is hitting a PlayStation platform this week, this time it’s Pocket RPG coming from Crescent Moon Games. In this dual-stick Dungeon Crawler, you choose one of three character classes, each with their own combat style, and explore trap-filled dungeons to face imposing bosses. It provides hours of hacking n’ slashing goodness.

 

  • Speakeasy

Platform: PlayStation 4 (Digital Only)

Price: $TBD

With its 2D, 1920’s style, Speakeasy may look like another fighting game, except it is a very simplistic local Multiplayer party experience that plays like a rock-paper-scissors game. Do you have what it takes to earn the Fisticuffs League Champion crown?

 

  • Thomas Was Alone

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One (Already Available) – (Digital Only on Both Platforms)

Price: $9.99 (Cross-Buy with PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita)

Thomas Was Alone needs no introduction if you’ve been following the indie game scene. Receiving critical acclaim for its great geometric platforming action and amusing storyline all about friendship back when it was first released in 2012, it is now coming to the PlayStation 4. The best part is that, since it is Cross-Buy supported, you’ll be able to download the PS4 version for free if you have already purchased the PS3 of Vita version of Thomas Was Alone beforehand, or the other way around.


Thursday November 27, 2014:

  • Raven’s Cry

Prices: $49.99 for the Standard Version, $54.99 for the Digital Deluxe Version

Are you ready to engage yourself in a dark quest? If the answer is yes, then you’ll be instantly be interested in Christopher Raven’s quest for revenge as he travels through the Caribbean to avenge his family’s death in Raven’s Cry. Since it is a Third-Person RPG, expect tons of activities to take on as well as en engaging combat system relying on free-flowing sword combat. The most interesting feature of all however, is with its Fear and Notoriety systems that make the world around you react to the actions and choices you make.
