A new rumour has surfaced online regarding NetherRealm Studios’ highly anticipated Mortal Kombat X, with fan-favourite characters Kenshi and Liu Kang supposedly making their return in the upcoming title
According to a post on the Mortal Kombat subreddit, a user uploaded an image of Mortal Kombat X’s IMDB page and revealed that two actors have been added for the parts of Kenshi and Liu Kang, as Craig Sechler is set to assume the role of the blind swordsman while Tom Choi is reprising his role as the Shaolin monk.
Last month, Ed Boon, creative director on Mortal Kombat X, tweeted an image of two individuals doing a motion capture scene for a new fatality, and, at the time, many people began to speculate that Kenshi would be the next character to be returning to the franchise.
(Note: major spoilers from Mortal Kombat 9’s story are in the following paragraph.)
Kenshi was one of four characters — the others being Rain, Freddy Krueger and Skarlet — added to Mortal Kombat 9 as part of DLC, and he was briefly seen in the opening scene of the main campaign and Shang Tsung also announced his name in the background of a cutscene. Liu Kang, however, was killed by Raiden towards the end of the main campaign, leading to speculation that he will return in Mortal Kombat X as “Zombie Liu Kang” (or something along those lines).
Although both characters being added to the IMDB page is pure speculation for their return in the title — especially as the website can be edited by any user — the rumours are continuing to stack up on Kenshi being one of the 12 returning combatants in Mortal Kombat X’s 24-character roster.
Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios tweeted two unique character introductions from Mortal Kombat X yesterday, with it featuring new combatant Cassie Cage trash-talking Kotal Kahn before the fight, while the thunder god Raiden exchanges a few words with Ferra/Torr.
Running at 1080p and 60fps, Mortal Kombat X will launch on April 14th, 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
