Metal Gear Solid creator and director Hideo Kojima will be showcasing Metal Gear Online for the first time at The Game Awards 2014, presenter Geoff Keighley has confirmed.
Metal Gear Online served as the multiplayer component of Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on PlayStation 3 in 2008, before publisher Konami eventually shut down the servers in North America in 2012.
A standalone Metal Gear Online package was also released exclusively in Japan, allowing people to join in on the 16-player multiplayer experience without the need for a copy of Guns of the Patriots.
“Next Friday night I’m honored @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN will join us at @thegameawards to world premiere Metal Gear Online,” Keighley tweeted.
Metal Gear Online is expected to be a core part of Kojima’s highly anticipated open-world stealth title Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and the Japanese developer had already revealed a multiplayer-esque aspect in the form of players being able to infiltrate other people’s Mother Base.
Last week, The Game Awards released a 30-second promo for the upcoming event taking place in Las Vegas on December 5th, with the video featuring the Scarecrow and hinting at the possibility of Rocksteady Studios’ Batman: Arkham Knight being shown.
Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q1 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
