Hideo Kojima, the creator and director behind the Metal Gear Solid franchise, has confirmed that further voice recording sessions are taking place for his eagerly awaited Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Four actors — Tomokazu Sugita (Kazuhira Miller), Satoshi Mikami (Ocelot), Osamu Saka (Code Talker) and Stefanie Joosten (Quiet) — have already been in the studio to record lines for their respective characters, with Kojima now having a “key person” from the Metal Gear Solid series joining him for the latest recording session: Banjō Ginga.

Banjō Ginga is the Japanese actor who did the voice of Liquid Snake in Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (specifically the Japanese versions of the titles), but he also played the role of Major Zero, Big Boss’ former ally and now arch rival in The Phantom Pain, in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.

With rumours speculating that Eli is a young Liquid Snake in The Phantom Pain, it seems that Ginga-san will be in the studio for a little while, as Zero, AKA Cipher, is already expected to appear in the title.

It was announced yesterday that Hideo Kojima would be presenting the world premiere of Metal Gear Online at The Game Awards 2014 in Las Vegas on December 5th, with this multiplayer component from the director’s 2008 PlayStation 3-exclusive title, Guns of the Patriots, making its return in The Phantom Pain.

The Phantom Pain has had a whole host of new innovations and features revealed over the past few months, including the ability to recruit multilingual soldiers into Mother Base, restrictions placed on free roaming when a main mission commences, how the wildlife works in the title’s open-world setting and Easter eggs also returning.

Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q1 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
