Metal Gear Solid creator and director Hideo Kojima has revealed that there are no current plans to develop a new installment in the Boktai series.

Kojima, who is normally (and heavily) involved with the development of titles in his illustrious Metal Gear Solid franchise, has worked on several Konami-related franchises as a producer, including Castlevania, Tokimeki Memorial and, of course, Boktai.

During a recent episode of Kojima Station, the Japanese developer confirmed there is no plan to expand the Boktai series with a new iteration at this moment in time, but he did not dismiss the idea of another development team working on the next installment.

“On the last Kojima Station, Kojima said there are currently no plans for a Boktai sequel,” JunkerHQNet tweeted. “But he made the usual “If someone else wants to make it…” comment.”

Boktai: The Sun Is in Your Hand, the first title in the series, was released in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance and Kojima served as the game designer and producer for the critically acclaimed game. Additionally, he went on to keep his role as a producer in the next three installments: Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django, Shin Bokura no Taiyō: Gyakushū no Sabata and Lunar Knights.

Earlier this month, Hideo Kojima was presented with an inaugural Bradford UNESCO City of Film Award for Cinematography in Videogames during the Bradford Animation Festival, with this being the second accolade the director has picked up this year following his Lifetime Achievement award at the 32nd Annual Golden Joystick Awards in October.
