Metal Gear Solid creator and director Hideo Kojima has been revealing some of the features that players can come to expect in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain over the past few months, including the restriction placed on free roaming when a main mission commences, the ability to revisit Ground Zeroes’ Camp Omega base and Easter eggs once again returning. However, the Japanese developer has recently explained some new details regarding the wildlife that can be encountered in the upcoming open-world stealth game.
According to Metal Gear Informer, Kojima discussed how the wild animals won’t hesitate to attack the enemy soldiers or the player, but when he was asked on Kojima Station whether the animals will attack one another in the open world, the director “nodded and smiled.”
“When Kojima was checking the game the other day, he decided to stand by and watch as a Soviet LRRP got mauled and eaten,” JunkerHQNet translated on Twitter.
“You need to watch out for animals. When taking a path around the back of a base, you might encounter wolves there. Kojima also said you can use the animal capture system to get them to attack enemies for you.”
A core mechanic for The Phantom Pain is how the day and night cycle can affect the players’ experience, and this will be an important factor that changes the different wildlife they will encounter depending on the time of day.
Hideo Kojima is continuing to push forward the development on his eagerly awaited title as he recently tweeted an image of himself, Tomokazu Sugita (Kazuhira Miller), Satoshi Mikami (Ocelot) and Osamu Saka (Code Talker) during a voice recording session for the Japanese version of the game.
Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q1 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
