Blizzard trademarks Eye of Azshara possible Hearthstone World of Warcraft expansion

On October 29th, 2014, users on MMOChampion.com’s forums discovered that prominent World of Warcraft and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft developer, Blizzard, had filed a trademark for Eye of Azshara in Benelux, leading to avid Hearthstone and World of Warcraft players speculating that it may be related to, or an entirely new, upcoming expansion for either of the popular games.

You can view a snippet of Blizzard’s trademark of the Eye of Azshara filing below:

Lending credence to the rumors that the Eye of Azshara is indeed potentially a new Hearthstone or World of Warcraft expansion, is the fact that well-known games industry figures, such as Geoff Keighley and Michelle Morrow, tweeted images from Blizzard’s headquarters of the same blueprints that many community members received a few days afterwards.

For those unfamiliar with World of Warcraft universe lore, Azshara is a Zone that sits in North Eastern Kalimdor, above Orgrimmar. With the release of World of Warcraft’s expansion – Cataclysm – the zone was subsequently redesigned with a large island in the center of the zone, inhabited by the Goblins – Bilgewater Harbor. The aforementioned  island that sits in the middle of the bay in Azshara resembles an eye when looked at on the map (which can be seen above).

The back of the card for November, entitled “Goblin,” was released in a recent Blizzard client patch. That fact, alongside the previously mentioned blueprints points to the possibility that Hearthstone or World of Warcraft’s next expansion is going to have some sort of mechanical theme.

However, with the discovery of Blizzard’s recent trademark of the Eye of Azshara , there may instead be a more Goblin-esque influence in the cards rather than engineering (in regards to Hearthstone).

What are your thoughts on Blizzard trademarking the name, Eye of Azshara? If you are familiar with World of Warcraft lore, or are an avid player of Hearthstone/WoW, what are your thoughts on the possibility of it being a new, upcoming expansion?
