GTA San Andreas New Steam Patch Removes Content, Rolls back features

Late last month, GamerHeadlines reported on developments regarding the PC version of Rockstar’s classic Grand Theft Auto, GTA San Andreas. The game was apparently taken down without notice from Steam, rendering it unavailable for purchase on Steam.

Lending some background to the game’s unceremonious takedown, GTA San AndreasSteam database information revealed that the game has been subject to a a number of recent updates.

Speculation led PC gamers who owned GTA San Andreas to believe that game’s lack of widescreen/1080p support (unless one downgrades the game’s .exe to a previous version – a technical, unnecessary process) and missing Xinput support were to be fixed in a future update.

Furthermore, seeing that GTA San Andreas was recently re-released on the Xbox 360, complete with 720p resolution and Xbox Achievements, PC fans of the game felt it safe to assume that the fan-favorite GTA title was taken down in order to prepare it for an update through Valve’s Steam service.

Moving on to the real news, Rockstar Games finally went live with an update to GTA San Andreas, and, unfortunately, it seems that the game’s latest update removed content and rolled back features that were originally in previous version(s) of the game.

Read more details on the latest update to the PC version of San Andreas after the break.

GTA San Andreas Steam Update Removes Content, More

GTA San Andreas Steam Update

According to RockstarNexus.com, the latest update to GTA San Andreas did quite a number on the PC version of the game.

Check out some of the major observations gamers have noticed in regards tothe latest GTA SA update:

  • Adds support for XInput controllers (Xbox 360 controller)
  • Makes “Steering with Mouse” enabled by default
  • Removes several songs for all owners (You can view a list of the cut songs here, apparently removed due to licensing issues)
  • Removes several resolution options, including 1920×1080 (This was broken in the original version, then fixed in an update – now unfixed with this latest update)
  • Loading a game save from the original version just starts a new game

An unofficial fan-made patch for GTA San Andreas, entitled SilentPatch, has been updated to be compatible with the new update. Silent Patch fixes some of the issues that have been discovered thus far, such as:

  • Aspect ratios are now correct and not squashed, like they used to be
  • 1.0/1.01 save games will not be rejected now
  • 1.0/3.0 settings file will not be rejected now
  • 10ms frame delay has been removed. As a result, game now locks properly on 30 FPS instead of 25 FPS
  • Mouse should not lock up randomly when exiting the menu on newer systems anymore
  • 16:9 and 5:4 resolutions are now selectable
