Ubisoft has had a fairly hard run of things as of late. With the disastrous launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity and numerous other gaming controversies just this year, it seems as though the company has fallen from the good graces of the majority of the gaming community. However, it appears that the company may have done right by their customers with their soon-to-be-released open-world, first-person shooter, Far Cry 4.
The review embargo has lifted for the game (however, PC review code will not be available until the Monday prior to Far Cry 4‘s launch) and reviews for the console versions are promising, boasting consistently high scores across the board.
A major concern many gamers, specifically those that play primarily on PC, is the quality of Far Cry 4‘s PC port, which is understandable given the current state of the PC version of Assassin’s Creed Unity.
Yet, some positive developments have surfaced in regards to the PC iteration of Far Cry 4, as gamers who have obtained PC copies of the game (albeit through questionable means, which is not endorsed at all by GamerHeadlines.com) have reported that the game runs exceptionally well on PC.
Regardless, the overall quality of the PC version of Far Cry 4 may prove that Ubisoft may not have another Watch_Dogs or Assassin’s Creed Unity situation on their hands, seeing that early reports say that the game is well optimized and “runs like butter,” even on a mid-tier gaming PCs.

Far Cry 4 Early PC Performance Reports
A user, dylanroo, on Far Cry‘s subreddit has gotten his hands on the PC version of Far Cry 4, and has subsequently relayed his experience with it:
First off, dylanroo’s general gaming PC specifications:
- Intel i5 3470 processor
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 660
- 8GB of RAM
One thing of note is that the GPU used above, the GTX 660, is well below the game’s graphics card recommendation of a GTX 680. You can view Far Cry 4‘s full list of minimum and recommended PC system requirements here, if you so desire.
Moving on to his experience with the PC version of the game:
Alright, so I got Far Cry 4 on PC. Let’s get the obvious out right away: I torrented it. After the abysmal disaster that was Assassin’s Creed Unity, I had to try before I buy, and oh dear Lord, is it optimized.
I have to say, there are a lot of options. The settings look a lot like Far Cry 3’s, but what surprised me was that it runs like butter.
PC specs are nothing too special, medium-range card with a decent processor.
I can run a lot of settings on high. I turned shadows and water to medium with textures up to ultra.
You have 3 different options of ambient occlusion: SSAO, SSBC, and HBAO+, but it seems that the last two are a bit broken at the moment because the shadows turn solid black.
The lighting is amazing, set it to ultra with Nvidia godrays on.
I played through the prologue, getting at least 45-50 fps in open space and 60fps during firefights and in buildings.
Dylanroo was so kind as to post screenshots of the game’s settings menu, the entirety of which can be seen here.
What are your thoughts on this information? Do you think that Far Cry 4 will be a considerably better experience than previous Ubisoft games? Will the game’s launch be better received than Assassin’s Creed Unity?
Also, are you excited to play the game (on console or PC) in general? Why or why not?
