Far Cry 4 has been released into the hands of the players, and now creative director Alex Hutchinson has been given permission to venture out and begin work on a brand new creation of his own.

“I’ve got clearance along with a bunch of people from AC3 and AC4 to go off and do something new after [Far Cry 4],” Hutchinson told CVG. “The challenge then is to keep costs down and make something that competes at a high level, without saying ‘we need a thousand people for a new IP!’”

Hutchinson’s new project came about through an internal entrepreneurial initiative within Ubisoft Montreal, which gives key creative staff the chance to pitch new ideas between projects. To give you an idea of what is possible with Ubisoft’s initiative, titles such as Far Cry 3 and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood were brought to us through this initiative and Far Cry 3’s Blood Dragon found its roots in a similar situation.

Hutchinson’s new project has its fair share of hurdles ahead of it, He notes that there a different pressures for a smaller project compared to the larger AAA titles, “at the moment we have the go ahead to try something new” he said. “it won’t be finished in a year, but the aim is [to show it].”

Although we already know that this project will not be a sequel to Blood Dragon; much to the dismay of fans of the Far Cry series. We can expect something exciting to come from a strong team backing the mind that brought us Far Cry 4.
