Warlords of Draenor launch issues

“Hey do you want to play Warlords of Draenor?” “Sure I have two hours to spend staring at queues.”

It goes with saying that an expansion to the longest running MMO is always going to attract a lot of traffic along with some unwanted traffic, but Blizzard has been force to introduce a temporary low population cap in an attempt to ease the Warlords of Draenor launch issues, as many day one players are struggling to enter due to “high queue times”.

In an update by Blizzard they explained that  “Our current biggest hurdle is the concentration of players in specific areas and zones, and an unexpected effect of that concentration on the realm stability. We’re continuing to maintain a lowered realm population cap to help with the stability, which is resulting in increased queue times. We’re seeing some increase in individual zones drop which are causing localized player disconnections as we get into primetime in the Americas, and if someone is disconnected they will quite likely run into a queue to log back in.”

The situation has been made worse by a DDoS attack when Blizzard continued with “While that solution helped a ton for our North American launch, we ran into a few other issues, including a distributed denial of service attack, that resulted in increased latency.”

In the same update Blizzard stated that they’re also working on other issues including:

  •  “Instance servers timing out, which may impact dungeon access
  • Continent server issues, which are resulting in Player Not Found and disconnection issues
  • Garrison server issues, which are resulting in phasing and performance issues

In an attempt to ease Warlords of Draenor launch issues Blizzard has introduced a low population cap in order to help with stability. Blizzard has also stated that increased latency was caused by a DDoS attack and they have promised to keep fans up to date on the progress their making against these issues.
