Xbox One October Update is out now!

by GH Staff

Yesterday, Xbox Live’s Major Nelson made a post to his blog, found here, detailing the October Xbox One Update. It began rolling out last night, so most Xbox One owners should have the update already. The October Update added a large amount of new features and fixes. You can read the full, detailed list over on Major Nelson’s Blog. But, I will summarize the main features below.

  • New Snap Features
    • New Snap features include the Xbox One’s version of the Xbox 360 Guide, called the Snap Center. This feature makes snapping apps and recording clips much easier for Xbox One Owners who don’t have Kinect. Images of the new snap center can be seen below.

As you can see, you can now snap Friends and Messages. You can also record 30 second clips through the Snap Center.

  • Achievement App Updates
    • Now, when you share achievements to your activity feed, you can add a caption. Also, when an achievement is full screen, you can see all the friends who have also gotten the achievement, as well as when they got it.

  • New Friends Tab
    • The new friends tab shows off some major improvements. To start, no longer do you have to load a separate app to see what friends are online. You can see them easily on the home menu. In this tab, there is also a menu that shows what games have been most popular among your friends, as well as the Gamerscore leaderboards, which show who on your friends list has gained the most gamerscore in the last 30 days.

  • OneGuide will be available for Xbox One Owners in Belgium, Chile, Columbia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Russia in the next few days.
  • You can now assign accessories, such as a Headset, to specific users.
  • There is a new “Find my Controller feature, which makes your controller vibrate.
  • A few more fixes and small features were also added, and can be seen on Major Nelson’s blog here.
