As pointed out the other day by Reddit user “UncommonSense0” with a post on the Xbox One Subreddit, we see that an updated image of Halo 3’s campaign missions have gone from 10 to 11.

You can see in the above image how Halo 3 now has 11 missions. But, what does this mean? Well, it could mean a few things really.
To begin, it could mean nothing. The “extra mission” could simply be the prologue or epilogue cutscene. Not really exciting news, but even though Master Chief has gone gold, it doesn’t mean 343 isn’t still making changes.
And, the less likely, but more exciting reason for this “extra mission” could actually be that Halo 3 will feature a mission that was originally cut from the game
This mission, titledĀ “Guardian Forest”, was originally planned to be in Halo 3, but was cut from the game.
Guardian Forest would have introduced a new enemy, aptly named the Guardian. At the end of Guardian Forest, the player would have had to fight a giant Sentinel boss, similar to the Enforcer from Halo 2’s campaign. When the mission was ultimately cut, part of it was turned into the map “Guardian”, seen below. This information comes from the Halo Wiki, found here.

Now, you may have noticed that the word “Guardian” pops up a lot. And you know what that means! Get those tin foil hats, because we’ve got a theory.
Halo 5: Guardians is the next Halo game. And, at E3 2013, we saw the first Teaser Trailer for the game. It depicted Master Chief walking in a desert when a giant figure popped up from the sand. Could it be that this figure was the boss from Guardian Forest, or at least a version of it?

Is it possible that Halo 3 in the Master Chief Collection will have an extra mission that will be a portal into Halo 5: Guardians? Not likely, but who knows.
Though all of this is just a big theory, it’s still interesting that Guardians seem to pop up a lot with this topic. But, it’s still unlikely 343 have added an extra mission into Halo 3.
But, what do you guys think about this? Could there be an extra mission for Halo 3 on Xbox One? Is it all just a big coincidence?
