The aforementioned real estate project is called the “Dubai Metro City Project,” and was featured at the 2014 CityScape property event in Dubai.

Visionary Property billed their project as the following:

“A futuristic urban hub combining business, retails, residential, and visitor attractions and facilities.

Furthermore, the property developer stated the city project would be a “unique, eco-aware, and designer city,” and would cover over 200 million square feet, promising to potentially house over 40,000 residents by the time the project was completed in 2017.

Sounds like something you could only dream of…

…or create in a city-building game such as SimCity, right?

Well, that’s exactly what a game-savvy industry professional thought when he noticed that the images Visionary Property were using in their ads were actually from the computer game SimCity.

In a statement made by Abdul Al Turk, the chairman of the Dubai Metro City Project, he stated that the company had worked with the “world’s most renowned architects” in preparing the images, while simultaneously admitting that all the images were indeed taken from SimCity.

Abdul Al Turk added the following to his prior statement:

“…we’re still determined to make this iconic project a reality should anyone be interested in investing.”

What are your thoughts on a Dubai-based property developer trying to pass of SimCity screenshots as concepts for a city project? Hilarious? Embarassing? Both? Or something different entirely?
