Announced in a previous article on September 28, 2014, Liquid Entertainment has launched a new crowd-funding campaign for an upcoming project called Battle Realms Legends (a fusion of role-playing game/strategic card battles) at KickStarter. With thirteen days left before October 16, the original creators of Battle Realms must gain more financial support to reach their targeted goal of $100,000 USA dollars. As such, the developers released a new video about a new reward program (involving a pie chart and valuing the player) for their eighth update. What could this possibly mean?

Before Ed Del Castillo, the creative director behind Battle Realms Legends, discusses a new way of rewarding players for their support, he mentions and asks audiences to read the Venture Beat article because it emphasizes that he and the company treat the gamers like shareholders, not cash cows. When Del Castillo continues, he spends a moment to further emphasize how much these players are valued with a few touching words.
“Yeah. We like it when you play our games. It makes us happy to see you happy. And, we want to reward you for that time–that time is precious. You only have only a certain amount of time on this Earth. And that time you give to us, it’s meaningful. Even if it’s five minutes or five years, it’s meaningful…..We want to reward you for spending time with us. We want to respect that time you gave us, and give you something–that you wouldn’t otherwise get–for spending that time with us.”
While veterans who played the original Battle Realms could probably attest to this personal but sentimental statement, newcomers and prospective supporters might appreciate this kind gesture in the end. After all, these folks have already seen some and possibly a lot of developers and publishers being manipulated by the market. Still, he later on explains the participation pie chart.
“Imagine a pie chart. Every player in our game is in that pie chart. We will have a matrix by which we assess and kind of determine, which wedge of that participation pie chart is you.”
Based on these participation wedges, the creators will distribute a premium currency to all players of Battle Realms Legends for each quarter. Additionally, they plan to hold some-sort of online meetings that inform community members about the future plans, so players know more about their investment. Finally, Kickstarter backers will have their rewards compound for a full year!
