Ed Boon, creative director on Mortal Kombat X, confirmed on Twitter that the sorcerer Quan Chi will be the latest character to return to the Mortal Kombat roster.

Shaun Himmerick, executive producer on Mortal Kombat X, introduced the gameplay video for Quan Chi and claimed that Netherrealm’s sorcerer “plays a major part in the MKX story.”

Additionally, Quan Chi’s three character variations were revealed: firstly, the Sorcerer variation enhances certain spells while others weaken the opponent; Warlock allows Quan Chi to open interdimensional portals and combine them with combo attacks; and last but not least, Summoner, as the name suggests, offers the ability for players to summon a demonic creature in battle, which can be used as part of a combo or propelled at the opponent in a projectile attack.

Earlier this year, Ed Boon revealed on Twitter that Mortal Kombat X’s 24-character roster is divided between 12 of the old fighters from the Mortal Kombat franchise and 12 new faces. With Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden and Kano already confirmed for Mortal Kombat X, Quan Chi is the fifth character making a return in the upcoming fighting title.

Running on a modified version of the Unreal Engine 3, Mortal Kombat X will launch on April 14th, 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
