by GH Staff

If you are not Samsung or Apple, it is hard to crack into the smartphone market. For those that try to offer a budget friendly smartphone, it seems Motorola is trying to get an advantage with their Moto G2.

Trying to dominate every price range, Samsung tries to release their budget friendly models, especially in the last few months with the release of Samsung Galaxy Avant. While trying also to stay attuned to the wallets of consumers, Motorola offers their Moto G2, which is sure to bring some competition. So to see which one is better for you, let us see how each one stacks up.

Display and Design

The Samsung Galaxy Avant follows the same formula for every other Samsung model. However, the Avant unlike their Samsung Galaxy flagships models has rounded edges and a less curvy body. It is comfortable in your hand and provides a stylish design with silver rim and a black finish. Like other Samsung devices, it is made from plastic, but tries to imitate a leather finish with their 4.5 inch display it provides 960 x 540 pixel resolution. This provides the user with a pixel density of 245 ppi, which is quite decent for this mid-range device. Unlike the other higher-range Samsung devices the display doesn’t come with a Super AMOLED technology, but instead provides a lower quality TFT LCD display. This does provide a lighter and slimmer device compared to its competitors weighing only 137 grams, and 133 x 66 x 9.9 dimensions.

The Moto G2 is heavier at 149 grams and provides dimensions of 141 x 71 x 11. The Moto G2 comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protected 5 inch display, which provides 720×1280 pixel resolution, and 249 ppi pixel density which is good for their price range. While it doesn’t have the best design, it provides quality specs that take the advantage over the Avant.

Operating System and Hardware

Just because you on a budget doesn’t mean you have to skimp on the specs. For the Avant and the Moto G, this is especially true, as they both offers users a powerful performance. Each is equipped with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, with the G2 offering 1GB of RAM, and the Avant providing 1.5GB of RAM. The Avant offers more memory capacity at 16GB with options of expandable memory up to 64GB. This is good for users that take a lot of photos, videos, and download lots of apps. The Moto G2 provides two variants with 8GB and 16GB of internal memory storage, with only 32GB of expandable memory with a microSD card slot.

The Moto G2 offers a newer Android version with KitKat v4.4.4, and the Avant runs the KitKat v4.4.2. The G2 also ensures that users will be able to upgrade to the Android Lollipop OS, while Avant hasn’t released any information to an upgrade option. The Avant provides the TouchWiz layer to operate alongside their OS that gives users the similar experience of their most high-end devices.

Camera

The Moto G2 comes with 8MP rear camera and front 2MP sensor. The camera is capable take 3264 x 2448 pixel resolution pictures. The Avant provides a sluggish alternative 5MP rear camera, using on the TFT display which creates poor quality results. It offers VGA front camera which is even worse.

Battery

The battery capacity makes no difference, if they were the same size. The Moto G2 offers a bigger display but a smaller battery at 2070mAh capacity. The Avant, on the other hand, offers a 2100mAh battery which allows for up to 372 hours on standby, 18 hours of talk time, and up to 44 hours on continuous music play.

Price

The prices of the devices are the same at $230, it makes the decision harder, so based on these specs that one do you choose?
