Metal Gear Solid creator and director Hideo Kojima has recently explained how free roaming in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s open-world setting will be restricted when the player begins a specific mission.

According to Metal Gear Informer, Kojima discussed on episode 26 of Kojima Station, a video webcast hosted by the developer, the way in which a mission being accepted will limit the area the player can travel to, and should they leave the designated zone where the current objective is set, it will automatically fail the task at hand.

The free roaming mechanic is similar to the one implemented in most open-world games currently available on the market, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is no different in allowing the opportunity for users to wander the vast regions within the open world and complete side objectives or find some hidden collectibles.

Hideo Kojima has been busy in the development of his eagerly awaited open-world title after tweeting an image recently of model and voice actor Stefanie Joosten recording her lines for the sharpshooter Quiet, as well as apologising for not picking up his Lifetime Achievement award personally during the Golden Joystick Awards due to him being “practically chained to my desk” in order to complete the game.

Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q1 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
