One thing that many PC gamers will attest to is the severe lack of Halo in their gaming lives (provided they game exclusively on PC).

With only the original Halo: Combat Evolved and its sequel, Halo 2, available for PC, and with the upcoming release of Xbox One-exclusive Halo: The Master Chief Collection, PC gamers are sure to feel the pain within the Master Chief-less void in their lives come November 11th.

Fortunately, a team of Halo fans and indie game developers have started work on a particularly interesting Halo project for PC called Project Contingency.

Read more details on Project Contingency after the break.

Project Contingency – A Fan-made, Indie, Halo MMO

Project Contingency, in a nutshell, is a fan-made, free-to-play, massively multiplayer online Halo video game that runs on CryEngine 3. A new update for the game has revealed a host of new features for the indie Halo game project.

As stated previously, Project Contingency will be free-to-play. Naturally, the game is unofficial, and is not endorsed by either Bungie or 343 Industries. The game’s release date has not yet been announced, but the game development team’s recent update shows that they are indeed hard at work on the Halo MMO.

In regards to Project Contingency‘s latest update, it appears that the game’s building blocks have been completed, with necessary assets such as animations and gun models being on the cusp of being finished. However, texturing and the like have yet to be fully implemented onto the game models.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Project Contigency is the game’s lobby menus, which appear to feature 64 player slots. In the development picture below, 2 teams of 16 players, on Blue Team and Red Team respectively, can be seen on a map entitled, “Hydroplant,” which is described as, “Derelict Station 09-WP – one of the few active hydro-powered energy plants still in active service.”

Furthermore, there are also settings for the game types, which include, “Score to win, time limit, primary, secondary weapon, grenades, and friendly fire.”

Project Contingency‘s development team is fairly large, including a variety of 3D artists, 2D artists, animators, programmers, et cetera. Additionally, work on the Halo game has been in progress for quite some time. According to the team, they have compiled hundreds of lines of codes, pulled numerous all nighters, and invested an insane amount of time into creating content for Project Contingency.
