LucasArts confirmed as GOG.com's new publisher

Towards the end of last week, GamerHeadlines reported that popular digital distribution service, GOG.com, was planning to reveal a new publisher (and its associated video games) to their catalog once a countdown banner on the site’s front page ran out.

Various team members on the GOG.com hinted that the newly signed major publisher is LucasArts. Furthermore, a tech-savvy GOG user did a bit of poking around the website, and found a number of images that lent credence to rumors that LucasArts is indeed the publisher to be revealed at the end of the countdown.

Fortunately, those rumors have been confirmed to be true (ahead of the countdown’s termination, no less) by a number of  posts on GOG.com’s forums – LucasArts is indeed GOG.com’s newly added publisher.

Read more on GOG.com and LucasArts after the break.

GOG.com to add new major publisher LucasArts

LucasArts titles that will be available for purchase tomorrow include the following:

  • Indiana Jones® and the Fate of Atlantis™
  • Sam & Max Hit the Road
  • Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Star Wars™: TIE Fighter Special Edition
  • Star Wars™: X-Wing Special Edition
  • The Secret of Monkey Island™: Special Edition

If you’re planning on buying one, some, or all of them, keep in mind that these won’t available for purchase until they officially launch tomorrow.

For those unfamiliar with the website, GOG.com (formerly known as Good Old Games) is a PC game and, since 28 August 2014, movies sale and distribution service. The service is operated by GOG Ltd, an owned subsidiary of CD Projekt (developer of the popular Witcher franchise), and is based in Warsaw, Poland.

GOG.com is known for offering “classic” video games through its DRM-free digital platform for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. However, in early 2012, GOG began selling more popular, recent titles such as The Witcher 2, Alan Wake, Assassin’s Creed, et cetera.

What are your thoughts on this news? Are you excited that a number of LucasArts-published titles will be available DRM-free via GOG.com? Why or why not?
