Ed Boon, creative director on Mortal Kombat X, has sent out a cryptic tweet regarding the upcoming fighting title developed by NetherRealm Studios, with an image featuring two individuals doing a motion capture scene and Boon eloquently captioning his message: “???? Wins …. Fatality!”

Twitter users and the Mortal Kombat subreddit are trying to work out which mysterious character Boon is preparing to reveal next in Mortal Kombat X, and many have proposed it will be either Outworld’s psychic warrior Ermac or the blind swordsman Kenshi.

Netherrealm’s sorcerer Quan Chi can be ruled out as a possible candidate due to the conformation received earlier this month that he will be returning to the franchise, leaving Ermac or Kenshi as the frontrunners for the next combatant to be announced — or it could end up being a brand-new character completely, of course.

With Mortal Kombat X’s roster divided between 12 new fighters and 12 returning faces from the franchise, Ermac or Kenshi’s announcement will make them the sixth confirmed character to be making another appearance in a Mortal Kombat title, with Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kano and, most recently, Quan Chi already been revealed over the course of the year.

Confirmed by Ed Boon to be running at 1080p and 60fps, Mortal Kombat X will launch on April 14th, 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
