How To Upload PS3/Xbox 360 Minecraft Saves To PS4/Xbox One

Minecraft PS4

After extensive delays and complications, Minecraft has finally arrived on PS4 and Xbox One. As far as graphics and gameplay are concerned, the previous and current-gen versions are almost identical. However, the biggest change to be found in the updated builds, is that your created worlds can be up to 36 times larger than what was possible on PS3 or Xbox 360. Another huge draw for the new version, is that you can import your previous-gen worlds directly into the PS4 or Xbox One variation as well. The only major drawback is that your imported worlds can’t yet take advantage of the map size increase, and transfers can only be done once.

Should that not bother you, here are the steps you must take to import your old Minecraft saves to the updated version.

Note: These steps are for transfers between Xbox consoles. PlayStation map imports are not available yet, but the process is likely to be similar.

  1. Boot Xbox 360 Minecraft and hit “Play Game.”
  2. Highlight the save you wish to upload and hit the Y button. It will ask for upload confirmation. Hit Ok.
  3. Once the upload is finished, go to Xbox One Minecraft and select “Play Game.” Pressing X here will download and convert your save file.
  4. After that’s done, you should be able to select the imported game from the save select screen.

As mentioned, what you see graphically should be almost identical to the previous-gen game. There is a slightly greater draw distance though, so you may be able to see objects that are a little further away. For those disheartened by the fact that old saves aren’t privy to a larger size map, it’s been said that that luxury is being worked on for a future update.

Are you guys satisfied with the next-gen versions of Minecraft, or should we be sick of it by now? Let me know in the comments section!
