With Nintendo’s highly anticipated brawler, Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS, releasing soon in North America and Europe, gamers are eagerly awaiting the chance to fight their favorite Nintendo characters using…their favorite Nintendo characters.
Amidst the wait, some interesting developments have arisen. According to NeoGAF user, PushDustin, there appears to be proof of incoming stage DLC tucked away in Super Smash Bros. 3DS’ ROM dump.

Super Smash Bros. 3DS: Stage DLC

The following text appears in the Sm4sh Rom Dump:
- Set the stages that won’t appear, even when selection is set to random.
- All Off
- All On
- Turn all stages off.
- Make all stages available when using random stage selection.
- See stages you have downloaded.
- See all regular stages.
- Select OFF to exclude this stage from random stage selection.
- Select ON to include this stage in random stage selection.
It matches the stage selection in additional rules perfectly.
Also note the notice the missing square [in the above image], just like in the stage selection screen. That’s where you can select the DLC.
While not a major revelation, since most gamers were expecting Super Smash Bros. to receive some form of downloadable content, it is interesting regardless. It seems that Nintendo is giving the game the Mario Kart 8 treatment.
Additionally, while it isn’t concrete evidence, it shows that Nintendo has already put their metaphorical DLC-laden foot in the Super Smash Bros. door .
It is unknown whether this will be the case for the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros., but it can be safely assumed that something similar will be the case for Smash Bros. across the board.
You can view the original posts on NeoGAF and Reddit, there appears to be some discussion in regards to other pieces of evidence pointing to various forms of DLC for the game, however it seems to be more free-form, lacking any tangible proof.
Keep in mind that this is a leak, and is not, in any form or fashion, an official announcement/reveal by Nintendo.
Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS has already been released in Japan (9/13/2014), and is gearing up for North American/European release on October 3rd.
