Steam passes 100 million active accounts

Full Steam ahead one might say (I’ll show myself out). With the introduction of Steam Discovery, which optimizes your shopping experience, Steam has actually surpassed 100 million active accounts. That’s a lot of accounts. On the official store page, they state:

“In the past nine months, Steam has added over 1,300 new titles and grown to over 100 million active accounts. Designed to meet the demands of this growth, the Steam Discovery Update delivers a smarter Home page, offering recommendations based on past purchases, recent playtime, and recommendations by friends.”

“We have made great efforts to increase the number of titles we can publish on Steam, which means more choices for customers. This update introduces multiple features and functionality to help customers explore Steam’s growing catalog and find the games they are most interested in playing.”

This is quite the accomplishment for Valve, considering in January they had achieved their goal of 75 million active users, 8 months has passed and over 25 million users have joined since then. Note, that an active user is someone who logs into their account at least once every 30 days, and has one game in their library. So yes, there may be a couple of bot accounts with one game in their library, but even when factoring this into account, it’s a massive accomplishment. Plus, with the introduction of 1,300 new titles in the past nine months, it’s no wonder they had to redesign their store page to accommodate.

With the introduction of Steam Discovery along with tons of new titles and an abundance of new users, Steam is doing fairly well for itself.
