Smash Bros. All Star Mode: Fight legendary characters in the order they were created!

Smash Bros. lets you smash your way through gaming history!

There is no question that the upcoming Smash Bros. on 3DS and Wii U will have the most impressive roster of legendary video game characters ever in a single game. It seems that the games director wants you to know that too.

In a unique twist to the classic All Star Mode you will now fight your opponents in the order of which year they were created chronologically. The classic All Star mode matched the player against every character (each stage would be against a specific series, such as Zelda and Mario) with limited recovery items.

Sakurai said: «In these battles, multiple opponents appear in one stage, and you clear the battle by defeating a number of them. The rest area that appears between battles displays the next opponents and the year the characters made their first appearances, and it also holds recovery items and an occasional reward. The characters you fight against appear pretty much in chronological order. Behold, the history of Nintendo games!!» 02.Sep.2014

Game directer Mashiro Sakurai also uploaded this image and added: “«In these battles, multiple opponents appear in one stage, and you clear the battle by defeating a number of them. The rest area that appears between battles displays the next opponents and the year the characters made their first appearances, and it also holds recovery items and an occasional reward. The characters you fight against appear pretty much in chronological order. Behold, the history of Nintendo games!!»”

The new All Star Mode shows off just how much history is in the new Smash Bros. Just for an example, Pacman, created in 1980 has been around for 34 years and is making his Smash Bros. debut in 2014. Compared to the newly announced Shulk (who debuted in Japan in 2010) has only been around for 4 years. Add in Mario, Link and Samus among many many others and you have an incredible roster (Some of which have already been announced as the first series of Amiibos figures) of gaming history.
