The recently held IFA 2014 unveiled some wonderful new electronic devices from all the top brands. Participants marveled at some of the new gadgets and smartphones ready for release.
However, two products really stand above the rest: The Motorola Moto X, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Since these two devices will be in direct competition with each other, a comparison of the two might be helpful for buyers to make the best choice when purchasing a new smartphone.
Screen and Body
The rectangular shaped Galaxy Note 4 offers the same leather-like material on the back panel as did the Galqxy Note 3. However, the handset of this new Samsung product is much slimmer than the older products – a design that most people really like.
The Moto X has a more curved and rounded shape. Although the Moto X can be purchased with just a back panel made out of normal plastic, the manufacturers let you choose between a bamboo or leather back panel. The Moto X also offers customers a choice to totally customize the device by changing the trim and button accents, changing the color of the front panel, and allows the customer to alter the wallpaper and greeting message, making it completely theirs. These extras will cost a bit more, but for some people, the cost is well worth the changes they make.
Both devices have a metal frame that makes them look like premium made products.
The Galaxy Note X has a Super AMOLED display that measures 5.7 inches. The Motorola Moto X has a screen just slightly smaller – 5.2 inches. Both screens offer high brightness, depth and contrast, and a wide angle view. Both screens have very small bezels on full front panels. The Samsung phone is better only because the larger screen boasts a 2560×1440 resolution, which makes pictures clearer and sharper.
Hardware
The Motorola Moto X beats the Samsung phone in its hardware: the Moto X has the Snapdragon 801 quad core processing unit from Qualcomm, which is enhanced by 2 GB of RAM. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is really not all that far behind with their Snapdragon 805 CPU from Qualcomm, and 3 GB of RAM. The processors have the Krait 450 touch; the Samsung phone offers 32 GB internal storage, while the Moto X has both the 16 and 32 GB versions available. Neither unit is microSD-expandable.
Both phones have standard connectivity such as Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, and a host of others.
The Galaxy Note 4 has a larger battery unit than the Moto X, and this unit is fully removable.
Both phones offer 4k video recording, but each has a different type lens. Samsung’s 16 MP ISOCELL camera ranks above the 13 MP camera from Motorola. Both offer quality shots, but the Samsung is just a better deal with its 3.7 MP lens.
Software
The Motorola Moto X camera uses the Android 4.4.4 KitKat, while the Samsung Note 4 uses a combination of TouchWiz UI and S Pen. This gives the Note 4 a lot of new features that are a hit with those who have tried them. Both devices also feature the latest Android version; the Moto X has a leg-up on its competitors because it already uses the Android operating system exclusively, and will be ready for the next batch of new smartphones.
