…For those who purchased the Season Pass anyway. Originally, the latest DLC, Dark souls 2 Crown of the Ivory King was delayed until the 30th of September. But for those who bought the Season Pass, the DLC is available today. Hurrah! Unfortunately, if you search for Crown of the Ivory King on Steam, the standalone DLC is not available as of yet, but will most likely be released tomorrow as scheduled.
I’ve spent today binging on the DLC, and it’s fantastic. Without going into too much detail (to avoid spoilers), I’ll give a brief overview of what I loved. The level design is phenomenal and very reminiscent of Dark Souls 1‘s level design. I constantly found myself getting lost in the areas, trying to find my bearings. There’s many new weapons, each with unique quirks that make them different from any other weapons we’ve seen so far, but still completely viable in PvE and PvP. The bosses are a joy to fight too (meaning they’re insanely difficult). Unfortunately, one of the bosses got re-skinned and sold as another bossĀ yet again, but I still enjoyed fighting them nonetheless. The aesthetic of the entire DLC blew me away, while the Sunken King’s domain was a dank-like grotto, and the Iron King’s was a fiery castle, the Ivory Kings is a desolate, wintery maze of structures that is very enjoyable to traverse.
This is the final installment of the Lost Crowns trilogy, and you’re treated to a surprise if you complete all three DLC’s and talk with the game’s King Vendrick. Slight spoiler, the surprise is horrendously underwhelming, many fans are already discussing their disgust at this. Spoilers obviously if you want to know what this power is.
There has been speculation as to whether FROM will be delivering more DLC, as they state that this is the final installment of the Lost Crowns DLC, but not the final installment of DLC. So fingers crossed we’re treated to other DLC’s that are of as high of quality as the Lost Crown trilogy.
